Boxoffice Review.....: The combination of Adrian Lyne and Zalman King, two of the most hedonistic filmmakers of the 1980s, made for a s*xy, stylish bit of artsy softcore in "9 1/2 Weeks," a Greed Generation variation on the "Last Tango in Paris" paradigm that wasnt very good at the time and which, in its scandalously "unrated" cut, still isnt that good. Still, the film enjoys a lingering cult following for whom the DVD will be a welcome treat, despite lackluster production quality. Its little surprise, actually, that Warner didnt give this title the red carpet treatment -- home theater buffs arent buying this one for its production values. Kinky s*x and a solid dose of 80s kitsch is what "9 1/2 Weeks" is all about.

For those who need a plot summary, its roughly this: Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke are upper-class New Yorkers who get hot, heavy and nasty, exploring s*xual extremes for a two-and-a-half month whirlwind affair.
